Almost at the End

Reading over the past blog entries here, I think I was right when I stated that the second year would be entertaining.
In terms of my course, the first semester was fantastic. Interactive writing with a guy from the Mustard Corporation, game design mechanics with a game from Ubisoft, we created a whole 'sound in games' wiki into a 'Sonic sounds in games' project instead. Any excuse, huh?
And I actually did some amazing things. I set up the game society at Northumbria, pushed us to get over 30 members, organised a trip to Eurogamer Expo, got commended for our efforts at the annual awards night. I was a School Rep too, helped get stationary sold in the Pandon shop! Helped produce that Squirrel game for charity, worked at open days, did over 100 hours of volunteering work all-in-all.
Second semester wasn't quite as good though. Conflicts with people, misunderstandings, misery and self-doubts. Remembering why I came to University in the first place.
Now I've finished the second year, I've spent my first month of freedom catching up on old projects started last summer, and planning my projects and dissertation for my final year as a games design student. I have no idea where this degree is going to take me. Sure, I had dreams at the start, like "I wanna work for Sega, OMG!" but y'know, I want to do something that has meaning. I want to use the game design skills I've got to help make peoples lives better, and I just don't mean by providing entertainment. This is something I wish to explore more.
So, this summer, and the final year look set to be interesting as well. I need to find something worthwhile
