Hi Guys,
I said I wasn’t going to email every week.. I lied This is a BIG email, since there are many game things happening in the North East soon, not just in the society, which I think you may be interested in. Thanks to those that came to the meet yesterday, including the new guys, it’s really great to see the society grow. The Tekken tournament seemed to work really well, so we’ll definitely be repeating that. Don’t forget to actually join the society: go to the Welcome Desk in the Students Union, ask to join the Computer & Video Games Society, hand over £3 and then do a little dance! Every Friday, 3:30pm-6pm The training room is located on the first floor of the Students Union. Go up the stairs, turn right, go through the doors and follow the hallway to the end, turn right again, and we’re in a room on the right. If you arrive early I’ll wait outside to show people in, and you can ask at the welcome desk for directions.Red's Bar for Drinks/Chat Students Union Training Room for Games Some of us also meet up afterwards in Red’s to talk about society things, so those two hours are for gaming only, the talky bits come after for those that want to have a say in how the society is run (Although this seems to be turning into “Let’s get food and stand around talking for hours!”). Weekly Themes So far we've played Left 4 Dead, Forza 3, Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3, Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur 4. This is the schedule for the next few weeks:
This Friday Darren and Callum will be organising the music night. I won’t be here for this week (Apparently going to France o_O) so if you have any queries or issues please speak to Darren: darren.pardue@northumbria.ac.uk We plan to repeat the beat ‘em up night and FPS night at least once a month, along with other themes. Online Tournaments Members can come to whichever meetings they like, and are not obliged to attend every meeting. You can just come for special events or trips if you like! But to accommodate people that just want to stay at home, we're looking for online games, either on Xbox Live or Steam, that we can create a tournament for. If you're interested in playing online games in a tournament, let us know which games you have or post them in this thread: http://www.creativegamers.co.uk/foru...read.php?t=288 Speak to Darren as well since he is organising the majority of it! Video Games Live The Video Games Live concert is taking place in the Sage Gateshead this year, usually they have it in London sometimes, so this is really awesome. It’s on at 8pm this Wednesday (25th November) and they STILL HAVE TICKETS LEFT! If you want to get a ticket, act fast and go online here: http://www.thesagegateshead.org/what...mes+&match=any To find out more about VGL, go here: http://www.videogameslive.com VGL is a video game music concert with interactive competitions and game playing going off in the middle. You can get tickets for less than £20 so I really recommend it! GameHorizon Creative Collision If you’ve never heard of GameHorizon before, they are a company that has a network of all the game companies in the North East and they often have events going on such as discussions, meetings, conferences and the like, which are a great way to get involved with the industry and socialise. They’re having another event on the 3rd December, which you can sign up for here: http://www.gamehorizon.net/events/index.php There is more info posted on the forum as well here: http://www.creativegamers.co.uk/foru...read.php?t=299 We’ll be posting and advertising more events by GameHorizon when they appear. Christmas Party The Christmas Party will take place on Thursday the 10th December, from 7:30pm – 11:30pm in Domain. A separate email has already gone out, but I’ll keep reminding people anyway Brawl & Beer Night Instead of the charity events for this year, which we’re going to move back to next semester instead, we’re having a Wii Brawl Tournament on Monday 14th December, 7:10pm at Red’s! We’re hoping to get many different courses and societies involved, so please pass it around. Sign up on the forum or at the meetings so we can make a fair tournament bracket for those that want to take part: http://www.creativegamers.co.uk/foru...read.php?t=306 Society Trip to the Metrocentre! If you get this email in time, a bunch of us are going to the new arcade in the Metrocentre today! You can meet Darren outside the Su at 2:15pm or myself at the bus station inside the Metrocentre at 3pm. It’ll be good fun, promise! That’s it for this week. I also want to add a big THANK YOU to those people who secretly collected money to buy me a copy of Left 4 Dead 2 as a gift for organising things like the Eurogamer Expo, I really did not expect it and I’m very grateful (Yes, I’m talking about you, Jenny!). Here is to more awesome trips in the future! - Trudie Smiles (Computer and Video Games Society President) P.S Don’t forget, if you don’t want to receive emails from us you can email us back and we’ll remove you from our list. |
