Previous Events!
Here are some of the things we've already done as a society:
Society Annual General Meeting & Elections
On Friday the 19th of March we had our annual general meeting which is a big meeting to discuss what we've done so far and to also elect new committee members that will officially run the society within the next academic year.
We had a great turn out and elected a bunch of new members, including:
President: Dan Harvey AKA YorkshireTeaMonster
Secretary: Phil Young AKA Animatr0nic
Treasurer: Callum Turnbull AKA DarkSpork
Tournament & Events Organiser: Scott McMullan AKA Zpecial
Visual Communicator: Andrew Lawson AKA lawson_akira
Congrats to those guys!
You can view the Power Point presentation of the meeting HERE or download a copy HERE (.pptx format).
Beer & Brawl Tournament
Our first tournament in Red's included plenty of drinks and pizza as well as some good old fashioned Brawl-ing. We had one bigger tournament bracket and a tag team match afterwards. The tournament was awesome fun and became pretty intense towards the end, which was ultimately won by a society outsider! Oh noes!
Due to the success of the tournament format, we're planning on having many more within the second semester.
Untangling wires like a boss!
Christmas Party
In 2008, 12 of us went for a Christmas Buffet. For 2009 we decided to do something a bit more fun.
We hired Domain and three TV's and had some awesome gaming going on till midnight. We had Rock Band, Tekken and Brawl going at the same time, and whilst we had planned to have a system link of Halo 3 at some point, Rock Band just proved too popular.. We even had three people trying to singe YMCA at one point!
We also had lots of sweets, pizza and crackers scattered around which were quickly consumed, and there were many glasses left over afterwards! Overall, a really fantastic night attended by over 30 people.. I lost count at that point.
Society Trip to the Metrocentre
The Metrocentre recently opened up it's new Namco Funscape arcade, so a small group of us went along to try out some games, take a look around and go for some dinner afterwards.
Some of us got carried away earning tickets and prizes, and after breaking the machines from overuse, we were given about 400 free tickets between us, which was pretty nice! The highlight was a certain society committee member playing Dancing Stage and drawing in a crowd of stunned onlookers though ;)

Tickets, w00t w00t!
If you know of any arcades within the North East we can invade, then please post about them on the forum!
Video Games Live
Video Games Live is a video game music concert. They usually have a show in London every year, but this year it took part in the Sage, Gateshead! That's just right outside our door!
A few of us went for our very first concert and were blown away by such an amazing night. Some of us even stayed behind to get CD's and posters signed by the guys in charge of it all, Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall.
It really was a fantastic night. Though the next one is in London in 2010, it's really worth the trek.
The Eurogamer Expo
On Wednesday the 28th of October, about 45 of us hired a coach and went down to Leeds for the day to enjoy the Eurogamer Expo, a UK gaming event created by Eurogamer.net. It gave us the chance to play games which hadn't been released yet, and also allowed us to attend the developer sessions and speak to companies like Ubisoft and Team17 at the careers fair.
Everyone in the society and on the game courses really enjoyed the day, and it was a great trip out! A big thanks to everyone that came along and took part, Eurogamer.net for holding it and the Northumbria Students Union for helping us book a coach!
We didn't take any pictures of the Expo, but we took a few on the coach!
The Society Fair
At the start of the year for 2009/10, the Students Union held a society fair for societies to set up a stall and advertise themselves to new and current students.
For our stall, we set up a Wii with some games, put up a few posters and flyers, held a 'Name the game character' competition and 2nd year Game Designer Lauren made us some Pacman cookies! On the day the stall was run by Trudie, society president, Darren, our technical assistant, Lauren and other random people that stopped by to say hi and pitch in!
It was a really fun day and we ended with a sign-up sheet with over 60 names and email addresses. Not bad!
Lauren and Darren, our two stall monkeys!
